The bedside lamp gave an ominous glow on the young man as he read a new chapter of one of his favorite books. Around him, the walls exuded a calming shade of blue though in truth Tyler himself could barely focus on his guilty pleasure. The book’s back cover displayed a curvy woman in a dark cocktail dress and a long, vintage cigarette holder; Denise LeShane, the well-known femme fatale protagonist of V. S. Kinson’s romance/mystery series. At first, Tyler had started reading Kinson’s books because of the pinups featured on the back. Then he actually finished it and before he knew it, he had bought the sequel. Right now, his bookmark laid halfway through, and Miss LeShane had just confronted Zacharias Kindling, the local kook who clearly knew more than he had initially let on. In the real world, rain made loud drops against the windows and Tyler couldn’t stop a shake from running through his legs.
